This website exists as a curatorial space in which to site the ideas, materials, and responses that emerge through CURATING KNOWLEDGE an initiative devised by Jane Linden, assisted by Rory Francis and staff at MMU Cheshire’s Department of Contemporary Arts, with the initial support of the Hefce Capability Fund.
Following a call for interest in 2008, a number of residencies were short-listed to contribute to this pilot project running from January to May 2009, where practitioner/researchers – from a range of arts backgrounds were each invited to take over the former Alsager Art Centre Gallery space for a week to continue to develop, or engage with new working processes as part of ongoing research activity, and to encourage lively interaction, exchange and open debate. Each of these residencies is punctuated by a seminar forum, elements of which are documented here, with additional materials generated in response to, and in dialogue with, these encounters. The site also includes links to the contributing artist/practitioners and further related research resources.
The project is ongoing and continues in the new gallery facility – Axis Open Space – at MMU Cheshire’s Crewe campus.
